Multi-Effects EFX The Multi-Effects offers 40 different effects ranging from single effects such as distortion and delay to powerful combination effects. The Multi-Effects also includes chorus and reverb effects which are independent of the Chorus and Reverb outlined below. Turn them off if you want to edit sound while listening to the original sound or if you want to use external effects units.
Page 63 1. Press [EDIT] to make the indicator light. Use the function buttons to select the display group. The button indicator of the selected display group will blink. Page 64 So if you try to create a sound which is totally different from the original waveform, the results may not be what you want. XP waveforms are divided into: One-Shot: These waveforms contain sounds that have short decays.
But before you do, try to envision what the entire Performance will sound like and decide which Patch to assign to each of 16 Parts. If you wish to edit a Patch while hearing how it will sound in the Performance, use this procedure: 1.
Wave Expansion Boards contain Wave data, as well as Patches and Rhythm Sets that use this Wave data, which can be called directly into the temporary Functions of Patch Parameters fig. The XP is able to modulate the pitch and volume of sounds by this ratio to create the warmth characteristic of early analog synthesizers. The symbols displayed have the following meanings. OFF: Parameter values will not be held even if Hold messages are received. Page Modulating Sounds Lfo Chapter 3. For higher settings, there will be a greater difference between softly and strongly played notes. Negative - settings will invert the direction of change. Higher settings will result in a greater difference between strongly and softly played notes.
Negative - settings will invert the effect. Page 82 Chapter 3. If you attempt to do so, both values will change together. Transmit Volume If you want Volume messages to also be transmitted when you select a Performance, specify the desired volume here. If you do not want Volume messages to be transmitted, set this to OFF. The upper line of the display will show the EFX parameter to be controlled. Higher values result in more delay repeats.
Coarse Coarse Tune Select the key corresponding to the pitch at which you wish to sound the Rhythm Tone. Some of these consist of two different effects connected in series or parallel. Page 94 Chapter 3. Page 95 Mix Mix Level Adjust the ratio with which the overtones generated by the enhancer are combined with the direct sound.
LowGain Low Gain Adjust the gain of the low frequency range. Hi Gain High Gain Adjust the gain of the high frequency range.

To get an idea of the user experience of the XP, I highly recommend to read through the tons of reviews at harmonycentral.
Unfortunately, Roland has not yet released a "true" successor of the XP series, so for the moment the XP is still a good bargain. Nowadays, you find them frequently on ebay or on craigslist with a great variance of ask prices. Prices are generally rather stable while in general it can be considered a good bang for the buck synth. Finally, the strings are very special. And they sound great as pads using the Synthophone chords.
My only regret is that now I'll have to dump all my patches and re-work my entire rig around your stuff. I always thought the XP had more to offer, but never imagined it could be like this. Looking forward to getting to know the wind sounds better. Many, many thanks. I've had a WX11 for almost two years now. It was more of a 'cool toy' than a workable instrument. Beautiful harmonica patches, excellent brass, and some of the widest synth leads I've ever come across. If this is the way all your patch sets are, I'm going to end up broke pretty soon : Thanks again.
I've had a lot of fun with many of the wind controller patches and have received many compliments on the harmonicas and muted trumpets in particular. Originally, I had planned on mostly using non-emulative patches with my WX5, but I've got to admit that it's a lot of fun playing some of the emulative ones. Or should I say 'wind' in my spare tire? Frankly, they sound better than my EWIm and I don't care if Akai waits until Christmas to ship it back from repair! Terrific stuff. Thanks again, Matt.
