The Citadel has produced many outstanding officers currently serving in the Navy as commissioned officers. This is a fantastic program, filled with opportunities to further your education, develop leadership skills and work with cadets to effectively and efficiently command the Citadel NROTC unit.

When a participant successfully finishes this program, they will have obtained a 4-year degree in a technical major and earned a commission in the United States Navy.

They are enrolled in classes at The Citadel only. For information concerning the requirements and process of application for the STA please see this link. After selection for the STA program, Officer Candidates will need to ensure acceptance into the university they have applied for. When the Officer Candidate has received their NROTC unit assignment, they will attend the 8 week Naval Science Institute course to receive training in the basic naval officer competencies.

The Officer Candidates will join their assigned units upon completion of this course and become acting members of the NROTC unit, participating in nearly all Battalion events. The Officer Candidate is required to be registered as a full time student for all available academic terms in the year.
